About This Project

Maple Leaf Landscape Completed by: Kate Martin Design Service Area: Entire Metro Seattle Area Located in the city of Seattle, the Maple Leaf Landscape is a perfect representation of Kate Martin Design's commitment to quality, creativity, and sustainable landscaping practices. We took a small suburban yard and created a dynamic outdoor space that was functional as well as visually beautiful. The was anchored by a beautiful stone retaining wall with multiple tiers built from locally sourced basalt. This wall is not only visually appealing, it also helped to solve the problem of erosion on the property because of the slope of the site. To round out the aesthetic and to provide a simple walking path from the main entrance to the primary outdoor space, we created a path throughout the garden using reclaimed granite pavers - an opportunity to preserve materials while adding interest. We also utilized a full palette of native plants that can withstand the Seattle climate, while also supporting native pollinators, such as ferns, rhododendrons, and lavender - building on local ecology and biodiversity in urban Metro Seattle. Moreover, a custom cedar pergola provided a shaded space to sit, with vines and plants planting that will eventually drape over the pergola and create a nice space to relax. Lastly, while doing the and landscaping, we challenged ourselves to build in drainage solutions for all of the rainfall Seattle is notorious for, and thoughtfully engineered drainage systems to protect all of the plantings and have the landscape intact during the rainy months. The final went beyond the aspirations of the client, marrying beauty and usefulness to create an inviting setting for family gatherings, celebrations and quiet evenings. Kate Martin design is proud to have made this vision of a family landscape a reality, establishing our pledge for quality, creativity and to supporting sustainable landscaping throughout the Metro Seattle area.
