This sizeable landscaping in The Garden Design Studio transformed a simple backyard into a breathtaking retreat by layering into lush greenery and lake views. It began with a full site assessment where we were able to assess the topography and existing vegetation. The site had the complexity of a slope leading to the lake that needed to be considered from both aesthetics and moving water to create ecological stability. The slope is now functional with the tiered terraces of limestone our team selected from a local quarry, providing both structure and the look of being integrated. The selected plants were a colorful mix of native plants including Texas sage, ornamental grasses, and flowering perennial plants. These plants were chosen in consideration of their adaptation to climate while attracting beneficial pollinators. To maximize outdoor living space the included a terrace that extends with enough space for an outdoor kitchen, dining area, and a fire pit to have plenty of options for entertaining while enjoying the sunsets over the water. We also provided an integrated irrigation system to limit water use while preserving the native ecosystem. Our commitment to sustainable practices is a hallmark of The Garden Design Studio, and we incorporated reclaimed wood for raised garden beds adding beauty to the while serving the environmental benefits. The final product is an outstanding landscape that not only fulfills the clients' request for a relaxing outdoor space but embraces the beauty of the Austin area as well. The hard and softscaping blended tightly with the material and plant selection truly creates a lakeside retreat.
