About This Project

Barton Hills - The Garden Design Studio Located within the enchanting landscape of Barton Hills, we undertook this transformative landscape to highlight the artistry and expertise of The Garden Design Studio. Serving the distinct communities of Austin, Barton Creek, and others, we seized the opportunity of the unique soil and climate lending themselves to creating a sanctuary that is congruent with its natural context. In order to formulate a design, we started with a thorough site assessment observing notable features such as existing trees and topography. With our design conceptualization in hand, we developed a multi-level garden to work with the issues of soil erosion and changing exposures to sun. A multi-level garden was possible because we incorporated native plants that would be happy growing in their native habitat, cutting down on maintenance and sustainability. We also incorporated a notable amount of hardscape elements using locally-sourced stone to assist with paths and terraces that added character and tied into the existing landscape. Additionally, we incorporated a custom-water feature that was visually captivating and provided an ideal audible component, complementing the natural soundscape, attracting wildlife, and enhancing the sensory experience. We worked to incorporate quality every step of the way as noted by the use of drought-resistant plants and how we worked with the decorative boulders to delineate garden focal points. The overall outcome revealed a stunning landscape that articulated the client's vision while being congruent with conserving the ecological integrity of a parcel of land. Today the client enjoys a lovely, peaceful sanctuary that is suitable for entertaining guests or simply relaxing. The Barton Hills is an excellent exhibit of The Garden Design Studio's commitment to the highest quality of landscaping, creativity, and sustainability. It will be a welcome addition to the expansive portfolio that serves the vibrant communities of Austin, West Lake Hills, and others.
