Family Fun Space by Kristen Rudger Landscape Design Located within the Atherton community, the Family Fun Space showcases Kristen Rudger Landscape Design's philosophy of creating enjoyable and functional outdoor spaces. This , designed for clients in Belmont, Burlingame, and beyond, creatively converted a formerly neglected backyard into a family paradise. The design includes a multi-purpose patio area utilizing beautiful, natural stone pavers integrated with softscape, including native plants and flowering perennials. A custom-built pergola provides crucial relief from the sun, creating comfort on warm summer afternoons. An updated outdoor kitchen reveals the best summer evenings with the family, grilling and gathering around the dining table with views into their landscape. Having to work with a slope was a big part of the design challenge, and we had to use ingenuity to integrate a solution for drainage yet still look nice. The team terraced the site, creating separate zones for play, relaxation, and eating outside while respecting some natural areas forming the landscape. The custom playground structure with soft eco-turf ensures the kids have a safe, inviting place to play, and the seating around the fire pit creates a quiet, cozy space in the evenings to tell stories around the fire or roasting marshmallows. The overall effect is practical and beautiful, perfect for the family's enjoyment, exceeding their expectations! Our family clients are loving their fun family space, connecting, creating, and making memories in an outdoor space designed for them.
