Belmont Outdoor Living Room Kristen Rudger Landscape Design is pleased to showcase the Belmont Outdoor Living Room (SOLAR) , which has taken an average yard and made it perfect for outdoor living. Located in Belmont’s vibrant downtown, the reflects the local community’s marriage of elegance and use based on lifestyle characteristics. The design could not be more stunning, featuring unique spaces for lounging and gathering with guests to enjoy the lovely California climate. A combination of natural stone patios and wood decking allow for seamless transition between spaces. The high-quality bluestone pavers not only provide durability but are visually enticing and create a sense of welcome. An array of native plants, which were located in connective areas to add color and pollinator diversity, included color from California poppies, lilies, and lavender, as well as various leaf textures. All plants were carefully selected, identified with tags, and placed for the client's appreciation and knowledge of how each space will act in harmony throughout the seasons. One of the primary challenges of this was creating a usable space in a sloped area of the backyard. We had to integrate new and existing usable surfaces while maintaining grade for a smooth transition. Our team worked to invent many terraced levels of creatively placed natural boulders for soil retention, which turned into a focal how-to introduce rustic aesthetics into the design. This approach maximized usable conditions for height and horizontal study, yet worked harmoniously with the flow from the home to garden. A central gathering area, complete with a built-in fire pit encased in comfortable seating, was easily incorporated into the residential structure as an entertaining focal point to be used year-round. A sophisticated outdoor kitchen, which included high-end appliances and raw resources, also allowed the homeowner to effortlessly entertain not only family gatherings, but interactively with friends. Ambient lighting throughout the landscaping expanded the functionality of the space late into the evening, which fit wonderfully with the clients’ outdoor lifestyle. After all the efforts to define a backyard sanctuary that reflects luxury, warmth, and nature, the clients expressed their umatched joy in being able to display and share in the work produced by Kristen Rudger Landscape Design. Their remarkable backyard was designated as the go-to place for their families and friends to gather together.
