About This Project

Synopsis: Burlingame Outdoor Living Room Kristen Rudger Landscape Design is responsible for the 'Burlingame Outdoor Living Room' that combines function and design, creating a beautiful outdoor space from an underused backyard. This serves the communities of Atherton, Belmont, and Burlingame and exemplifies our dedication to quality and design innovation. The focal point of this outdoor living area is a well-designed stone patio made of local flagstone for a beautiful and lasting space. A custom cedar trellis provides shade and comfort for entertaining family and friends on the patio. A modern outdoor kitchen complete with a grill, refrigerator, and quartz countertop allows the homeowner to hold summer barbeques. Dealing with the slope of the property site was an issue we had to work around. The design team was able to incorporate tiered landscaping beds that helped stabilize the slope with an added depth of vegetation. The tiered beds hold a curated selection of native and drought-tolerant plant materials to meet the principles of sustainability and help enhance beauty. Lighting was an important part of the as it provides a warm glow to the landscape. Lighting was placed in various positions to enhance the features of the landscape for evening entertaining. A fire pit with seating was included in the design to allow for those cozy evenings under the stars, creating another outdoor living space in addition to “table” space of the patio. The space has harmoniously blended something natural with modern living, the client was thrilled with how the space turned out especially because of how functionally it performs on top of being so beautiful.
