About This Project

Vegetable Garden in the Backyard of a Burlingame Home The Burlingame Backyard Vegetable Garden represented a whole new landscape type in outdoor living and sustainable growing for our clients in Burlingame. The vegetable garden is a reasonably large garden that balanced functional and aesthetic demands of our client who envisioned the space. As with all of our s, the goal is to use quality and organic materials. Raised garden beds were made with reclaimed wood, and the pathways were lined with stone quarried in the Bay Area. We prefer organic and reclaimed products to a typical wood product because they are durable and provide a more natural experience when working in the garden. The garden beds are arranged to optimally grow seasonal vegetables and herbs, and it features fruit-bearing trees and edible flowers in sunny locations for easy access for cooking. The primary challenge in this was leveling the backyard lawn and implementing drainage solutions to manage excess water. Our experts managed this by gently sloping the yard and sloping it away from the planting beds for proper drainage to the grass and proximity to the street and gutters. Completing the , we installed a wood trellis where plants could climb, and an area for sitting to enjoy the vegetable garden. The goal was to include lots of utility, beauty, and a space for enjoyment for them to come out and tend to the plants, and use the fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs to eat. The final product has brought immense joy to our client who is now able to enjoy a beautiful vegetable garden, fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs while having a bit of leisure space.
