About This Project

InSitu - A Natural and Design Synthesis Executed by Richard Hartlage Land Morphology, the ‘InSitu’ landscaping transformed outdoor space in the heart of Seattle, with influence felt through Bainbridge Island, Bellevue, Kirkland and Mercer Island. The purpose of this transformative was to achieve a synthesis between the architecture of the home and its landscapeto create a retreat, embracing the regional Pacific Northwest landscape. A highlight of InSitu is the detailed hardscape that consists of locally sourced basalt stone for pathways and seating areas. The materials are durable, but also representative of the geology of the area. The water feature is composed of natural boulders and includes a cascading stream, which becomes the focal point in the garden, inspiring calmness and attracting local wildlife. InMmplementing the had a few identified challenges (the initial slope of the property and the existing draiange issues that accompanied the site). Our team took on sverything in stride, and developed a grading plan for water to drain properly, while still building grades that were also aesthetic. Integrating native plants into the (ferns, salal, Pacific rhododendron plants), we produced a landscape that would be low- maintenance and flourish into the next season, with color year round. The result of the InSitu produced a stunning outdoor space that expressed the client's vision. The outcome surpassed expectations and fostered an atmosphere for family gatherings and progressive relaxation time. Each individual aspect of the was fully considered and integreated equally into the surrounding environment. You could see quality craftsmanship and innovation at its best, evident in the lense of Richard Hartlage Land Morphology. And the client was beyond happy, embodying the essence of 'InSitu' - a landscape that is altogether 'in place', and harmonizing with its environment.
