The Minnetonka Gabion Terraces by Stonepocket Unique Landscapes The 'Minnetonka Gabion Terraces' , located in the beautiful landscape of Minnetonka, perfectly illustrates functional design and nature. Stonepocket Unique Landscapes was approached to create an outdoor living space out of a challenging, sloped site. The team incorporated their innovative gabion wall systems made from durable galvanized steel and stone using river rock obtained locally in the process. The design had terraces that provided stability to the sloping terrain in addition to creating planting locations for beautiful gardens; each terrace. Carefully constructed for proper drainage and soil retention to reduce erosion - a common occurrence in the area. To navigate the challenges of the natural contours of the site, our team created an accessible design resembling an outdoor pathway and a beautiful view. The design incorporated native plantings; specifically, ornamental grasses and flowering perennials to thrive in the local climate while attracting pollinators, further strengthening the ecosystem of the landscape. The combination of the gabion walls with the natural stone created an aesthetic juxtaposition within the site and its surroundings. In the end, the client was thrilled with the transformation; the unusable slope became an outdoor retreat suitable for entertaining guests or simply enjoying the restful views.
