Period Homes & Context-sensitive Landscapes by LandServe, LLC At LandServe, LLC, we recognize that landscapes convey stories, especially as they relate to the architecture of period homes. Recently, we completed a , wherein both the landscapes and home were designed to enhance not only the beauty of the property, but also the spirit of the house itself. The , Period Homes & Context-sensitive Landscapes, is a way to promote our goal to develop landscapes which complement period homes across our service area (Bohners Lake, Burlington, Lake Geneva, etc.). The established the grounds around a gorgeous Victorian home, which was a true challenge in aligning modern use with historical sensitivity. One of the first steps in the process was doing a complete analysis of the site, which helped set the stage for all the design elements to speak to the home’s architecture, while still respecting the surrounding environment. Use of local stone for pathways and retaining walls helped create a seamless transition from the home to the landscape, and we chose plants and materials that were both native to landscape and embodied the colors and textures of architectural ornament. The use of small ornamental grasses, heirloom roses, and flowering perennials was used to achieve yearround appeal while keeping the context local and historical. For a few challenges encountered, such as a lot of slope in the site and high wind exposure, we used terraced beds and evergreen shrub and tree plantings for protection, while still achieving a mild pastoral aesthetic. We also applied our expert craftsmanship to create custom arbors and trellises, which added verticality and interest, and allowed room for climbing plants. The resulting landscape was, as expected, breathtaking, and provided more than just a fresh appearance of a revitalized landscape. The experience created a usable outdoor space for family and friends to congregate in the beauty of nature. Lets face it: what might be better than sipping wine while watching sunset on the outdoor patio of your Victorian home? That’s what we strive to provide for our clients. The client couldn’t have been happier with the result, and felt the amount of space now allotted to outdoor living is valued more than they could have imaginedand also loved how the new landscape worked so well with the historic character of their home while still enabling functional outdoor living. We wanted to demonstrate at LandServe, LLC, that we are capable of land management that is stunning, but also functional and sustainable or "Landscapes for Life!" Whether this be Milwaukee, Chicago, or anywhere in the country, our ultimate goal is to provide you with transformed outdoor space that honors the outdoor space past while making the most of today.
