Mill Valley Housing - Shelter Point Pedersen Associates recently finished a beautiful landscape development for Mill Valley Housing - Shelter Point, a livable community for Marin County families. This underscores our mission of enhancing the natural strength and livability of residential spaces in the diverse communities of Mill Valley, Tiburon, and beyond. The landscape design intermingles local indigenous plant-life with sustainable materials, illustrating an approach that uses a palette of drought-tolerant plants appropriate to the climate and fully adaptable to the plant-life that grows there. A highlight of the is a long winding path that meanders through the dense gardens, made of locally sourced granite, which not only are visually stunning, but provide an accessible path for residents to explore their future green backyard. One challenge that we addressed was making usable green space out of a sloped yard. Our staff's knowledge of terracing, combined with their ability to reclaim wood to create retaining walls, made for a functional and thoughtful solution that respected the nuances of the natural environment. Not only do the retaining walls provide structural stability to reduce erosion, but they provided tiered planting areas that allowed us to discover and populate the onsite plant-life, bringing together an abundance of vegetation for the local wildlife to thrive. Overall, the outcome resulted in a nature-filled landscape that today exemplifies a calm demeanor within a community. Beyond high-level plant and aesthetic concept, the beauty of the garden is made alive with the grasses and blooming wildflowers across the seasons, bringing opportunities for year-round recreation for the residents to enjoy. Our dedication to attention of detail and quality workmanship, left a lengthy, vibrant lasting experience for the residents, the client, and ourselves, as we look to continue to build livable outdoor spaces through breathtaking landscapes full of functionality and beauty.
