This detailed emerged from reworking a traditional Tudor home into an outdoor sanctuary, built on the skill and fine attention to detail Pedersen Associates is known for. The landscaping areas included a beautifully designed front approach, utilizing locally sourced flagstone which completes and connects with the home. An abundant source of perennial gardens, organized using native plants, is visually appealing and ecologically sustainable through attracting local pollinators. Plants throughout the yard are drought resistant, an imperative factor within the changing climate in California. A primary challenge of the was the creation of an outdoor living space which offered the client an environment for colorful entertaining and relaxing, while addressing the natural slope of the property. Our landscape team created terraced levels, while successfully using stone retaining walls built from reclaimed granite, creating function and stability while adding to the rugged material of the garden. The focal point of the garden addresses a tranquil water feature and gentle motion and overall sound of trickling water. The feature was designed with basalt boulders and mechanically recirculating water, addressing sustainability for minimal environmental impact while providing tranquil motion and sound. Finishing touches of modified creative competence were uniform seating constructed with sustainable hardwood and adequate for entertaining, along with strategic outdoor lighting highlighting the several features while improving the conditions of safety and accessibility at night.
