Strand III

Summary: Strand III MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning is proud to share our design for "Strand III" a beautiful transformation inspired by the coastal communities of Newport Beach and the surrounding area. This showcases our focus on quality, creativity and the integration of nature in residential environments. The is designed to coexist with its coastal environment while creating a lush, appealing escape: it features a beautiful selection of drought-tolerant native plantings to promote sustainability and enjoy a landscape that uses the least amount of water as soon as possible, in an effort to meet California's water goals. Pathways and seating areas are made from locally sourced stone which strengthens the relationship between the landscape and architecture, while recognizing and featuring the region’s natural beauty. One of the challenges we were faced with was the slope of the property. We devised an innovative terraced solution, incorporating retaining walls made of durable and environmentally sustainable materials that added visual beauty and functionality to the landscape. This allowed us to design multi-level gardens, moving pathways, and nooks for gathering and retreat as part of outdoor living. In addition to this, the also incorporates a water feature that was custom-designed for the . It provides focal interest, immersion and peaceful sounds, with a koi pond, and it drapes over the koi pond to a waterfall. We used natural boulders to add structure, stability and visual beauty to contrast with the plantings. The final product of Strand III is an outdoor oasis that surpasses the goals and expectations of the client. Every design element, from the plant selections to the hardscaping design, has been orchestrated into a balanced relationship between luxury and environmental consideration. Outdoors now can function as an extension of the home, where the client can provide guests outdoor space for entertainment and retreat moments to reflect by the water feature. MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning is happy to have realized this vision and turned Strand III into a unique landscape that expresses the culture of Southern California coastal living.
