About This Project

Chateau Ridge by Matteson Landscape Architecture Situated in the peaceful landscapes of Greenwich, Chateau Ridge is an embodiment of the design excellence of Matteson Landscape Architecture. This large residential , completed in early 2023, converted a difficult, sloping site into a masterpiece of outdoor design. The design elegantly weaves together native planting and refined hardscaping, using durable bluestone pavers and custom-cut granite walls to create bold terraces that follow the natural undulations of the site. The focal point of the garden, a beautiful water feature, was designed to cascade down the slope, providing both auditory relief and peacefulness to the site. A significant challenge of the was addressing the steep grade of the site and ensuring that drainage was facilitated properly so as not to impact the landscape. We worked diligently to engineer retaining walls and drainage solutions that not only mitigated this issue, but integrated with the design. In addition to the hardscaping, we implemented a layer of perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrub materiality, for year-round interest and to contribute to remediation. Integrating sustainable practices such as xeriscaping and selecting native materials was a cornerstone of our design approach in an effort to address nature and/or benefit environmental performance. The resulting design is a beautiful and functional design, featuring inviting paths leading to lush gardens, a cozy fire pit gathering area, and a number of small intimate areas for quiet refuge. Our clients expressed their joy in the transformation and felt the accomplishes elegance and cohesively connects the indoor and outdoor spaces. At Chateau Ridge, Matteson Landscape Architecture has successfully redefined landscape design, achieving a unique masterpiece of design that beautifies the site.
