About This Project

'Japanese Inspired' by Outside InStyle Located in Los Angeles, Outside InStyle revealed the landscaping 'Japanese Inspired,' a calming space that seamlessly blends traditional Japanese inspiration with a Southern California outlook. Located in high-end communities from Bel Air to Palm Springs, the team designed, developed, and built this calming landscape with all the elements of a serene Japanese garden including, lush vegetation, calming water features, and curated stone walking pathways. The design was highlighted by a variety of koi ponds, surrounded by an array of carefully selected native plant material (e.g., bamboo, azaleas, plus Japanese maples) to fully impart a sense of calmness in the space. Due to the solid construction of the native varietals landscape, we used quality materials, including natural stone and reclaimed wood for the decking, to allow lasting durability without an inorganic look. In designing the we faced many challenges due to the declining slope of the renovation area, which forced us to innovate terracing techniques, while utilizing infiltration (drainage) systems in the landscape to maintain the landscape's integrity. The artisans built the piece by piece, selecting every part of the everything from the smooth pebbles around the water's edge, to the delightful lanterns that illuminated the paths at nightso every detail had a role to play in the overall harmony of the design. The result is a spectacular landscape that elevated the beauty of the property while providing a retreat for the homeowner families. After the completion, the very pleased client commented on how much they liked our design, saying, "The landscaping has transformed our backyard into an oasis," which provided them a pleasant outdoor space that represents a tranquil place to be, integrating beauty and functionality, a.job well done.
