Located in the beautiful area of Corona Del Mar, this landscaping was both an artistic process and a technical undertaking together. The homeowners wanted a relaxing retreat that would create a place that integrated well with the views of the ocean, but also a cozy setting for families to gather and entertain guests. Our team worked hard producing a multi-layered landscape that combined native planting with contemporary hardscaping, focusing on both sustainability and aesthetics. Some features of the include a stunning infinity-edge pool that flows into the horizon, with natural stone coping to associate with the coastal cliffs. The materials selected are durable and weather tolerant materials that will hold up against the coastal elements and will be long lasting with nothing further than simple maintenance. The pool is surrounded by travertine decking to create a luxurious environment for sunbathing and lounging, and additional fire pits are located throughout the social setting for warmth and atmosphere. To create a level of privacy and comfort while not limiting the light, we used mature palms and lush flowering shrubs for a colorful and layered landscape that created relaxation. The design recognized the natural topography of the property, not avoiding to terrace the property to produce a space for gardens of fragrant herbs, colorful perennials, and drought tolerant succulents, creating another layer of not only visual interest, but catering to California’s sustainable gardening policies as well. Overall, one of the challenges faced was having to deal with the site’s sloping terrain as well as providing ideas for drainage solutions. Our team presented ways of grading the site and using permeable paver systems in an effort to promote water management and to avoid erosions, while also enhancing the overall landscape design. The completed is a beautiful outdoor oasis that not only represents the clients' lifestyle and love of nature, but functions perfectly while marrying beauty and function. The Corona Del Mar Residence has achieved success as a relaxing retreat while not disappointing in the entertainers dream it evokes.
