About This Project

Laurelwood House is a stunning transformation of a midcentury home in Los Angeles, showcasing a harmonious blend of modern design and the home’s original charm. The project involved a comprehensive renovation and addition that addressed the home’s challenging layout while maximizing its breathtaking views. Originally, the approach to the house was convoluted, leading visitors past an unsightly carport and through a dark kitchen that opened directly into the living space. Our design vision was to create a more inviting entryway that would enhance functionality and aesthetics. To achieve this, we replaced the dilapidated carport with a stylish garage and excavated the space beneath the house. This strategic alteration allowed us to design a new entry that faces the street, welcoming guests with an open and bright foyer. The addition of an office/bedroom on the lower level provides versatility and enhances the living experience. Inside, the renovation breathed new life into the kitchen and living room, which, despite their outdated elements, featured a beautiful post and beam structure. We selected contemporary finishes and state-of-the-art appliances, creating a seamless balance between functionality and style while respecting the home’s midcentury roots. The master bathroom is a highlight of the renovation, embodying luxurious design choices that elevate everyday living. It features high-end materials, including sleek tiles and custom cabinetry, combined with modern fixtures that enhance both comfort and elegance. The craftsmanship throughout the project reflects meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that each element contributes to a cohesive and sophisticated aesthetic. The outcome of the Laurelwood House project is a beautifully reimagined home that not only addresses the original layout issues but also emphasizes the stunning views and architectural character intrinsic to midcentury design. This renovation exemplifies how thoughtful planning and quality craftsmanship can transform a space into a functional, inviting, and visually striking home.
