About This Project

South Pasadena Hillside by June Scott Design In the heart of South Pasadena lies the South Pasadena Hillside by June Scott Design, a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability. This major landscaping turned an abandoned steep hillside into a beautiful outdoor living space that compliments the surroundings. The incorporated native drought-tolerant plants such as California poppies and lavender to not only beautify the space, but support biodiversity as well. Natural stone boulders and locally sourced flagstone enhanced the design and created beautiful terraced levels that serve as both functional outdoor living space and erosion control. Our team had to deal with the steep hillside gradient, creating an innovative drainage system to manage water runoff while maximizing the landscape. We designed a winding path to passersby through the living landscape using permeable pavers to absorb rainwater and allow foot traffic. The two seating elements, created from reclaimed wood, provides homeowners with small, intimate areas to sit and enjoy their new beautiful outdoor living space. This is more than just a beautifully landscaped hillside; it is a sustainable outdoor retreat that encompasses the client's program, and enhances daily life. The South Pasadena Hillside is a shining example of June Scott Design’s quality and attention to detail, and our clients were thrilled with their outdoor transformation.
