We took great care to provide native plant species in our specifications; not only do they naturally thrive in local climates, but they increase biodiversity in urban landscapes. We specified a mixture of hardy perennials, decorative grasses, and flowering plants for colorful, lush landscapes that would change through the seasons. We also specified durable materials for walking paths and seating areas to ensure longevity, sustainability, and to harmoniously integrate into Charleston's architectural heritage; these materials consisted of locally-sourced Stone pathways and recycled pavers. The city of Charleston was faced with persistent urban traffic which made it difficult to access certain requested areas. REMARK was able to overcome this by developing innovative scheduling strategies and using specialized equipment that allowed us to work efficiently and minimize the impact on the community. We also dealt with soil erosion issues by engineering a suitable drainage solution that would ensure planting beds were able to thrive and maintain their aesthetic appeal! Ultimately, the Downtown Renovation produced a beautiful landscape of attractive green spaces, thoughtfully designed walking paths, and seating areas where one could relax socially or assemble with community members!
