Queen Anne Backyard Oasis Seattle, Washington: Orion Rockscapes is pleased to present the "Queen Anne Backyard Oasis", a backyard renovation that will bring a new living space to the outdoors in the city of Seattle. With a sloped yard featuring multiple tiers to work with, it was key for us to work with the land to create an easy flow between spaces that felt natural given the landscape, and to create a peaceful escape for our clients. Central to the was a beautiful layered patio of basalt pavers from a local supplier, uniquely laid to define multiple areas for relaxing and entertaining. And it's hard to miss all of the painstaking craftsmanship that goes into it, from the hand-cut stone walls that offer support as well as a form of artistic focal point and integrate with the surrounding environment seamlessly. For added beauty, we selected a range of native plants (such as colourful ferns, hydrangeas and ornamental grasses) that will be of interest throughout the entire year while supporting local biodiversity. One blue stone walkway, with discreet landscape lighting to illuminate the way at night, winds through the garden to demonstrate its singular beauty after dark. Anticipating and controlling water drainage along the hillside was a major challenge we overcame. A french drain system was installed by our team to keep water from building up to be sure the landscape will last through years. The outcome is a green and sustainable sanctuary that occurs naturally in Seattle's weather scene. This 'Queen Anne Backyard Oasis' not only epitomizes our quality and attention to detail, but also captures our client's dream of a retreat in her own backyard. The homeowners were thrilled with the end result, and can now use their beautifully functional outdoor space for entertaining, relaxing, and exploring the beauty of nature at home.
