Rudder by Kathy Henry Exterior Design Located in the beautiful San Diego County, Kathy Henry Exterior Design, LLC is excited to introduce the 'Rudder' . This is an extraordinary landscape overhaul that translates our vision of quality and innovation to landscaping. While serving the coastal communities of Cardiff By The Sea, Carlsbad, and La Jolla, this is designed to enhance the natural beauty of our coastal landscape. The Rudder features visually striking elements that enhance both the look and usability of the landscape. One of the first elements guests experience upon arrival is the carefully crafted pathway built from stone; it leads guests into the garden space. The pathway is lined with drought tolerant plants that represent Southern California natives. The flagstone material was quarried locally adding to the beauty and much needed durability while complimenting the coastal vibe. One of the major obstacles we faced was the fact that we were dealing with a slope, which required us to get very creative with our grading in order for us to design tiered garden beds that not only maximize the landscaping area but also the views. Another engineering feat by our team was to create a rock retaining wall out of local boulders that both provides support while acting as a sheer focal point in the landscape. There is also a spacious seating area to relax in which features custom-built wooden benches and a fire pit for evening (smokeless) gatherings. The seating area was specifically included to enjoy the lush plants surrounding the seating area and fragrant flowering plants. The seating became an oasis to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. To add to the essence of the area we added a water efficient irrigation system to allow the area to remain lush without being wasteful. Finishing the Rudder , we met and exceeded our client's expectations. The client's mere delight to see their outdoor living strip was filled after the initial landscaping process felt great, but to see them use their newly completed created outdoor living area with family and friends was where we really felt satisfaction. The area transformed their outdoor living space into a tranquil retreat. Not only is this a testament to Kathy Henry Exterior Design's commitment to creating beautiful, functional landscapes throughout our communities from Encinitas to Escondido.
