Poolhouse Retreat Matthew Cunningham Landscape Design LLC has a privilege to feature the 'Poolhouse Retreat'; a decorative landscaping located at the heart of Stoneham. This outdoor retreat was created to integrate a poolhouse with a combination of plants and outdoor living spaces enough to generate the perfect retreat for any occasion without considering the conditions of use. The began with a thorough site analysis, to determine the curves and other natural amenities of the property. The most difficult challenge was figuring out to maximize the aesthetics of the poolhouse, while adapting to the different types of existing landscape elements. We effectively accomplished this with drought-resistant plants, ornamental grasses, and flowering perennial blooms, which were progressively placed to frame the poolhouse and elevated the landscape while maintaining the original usage and space of features. To add to the experience of the outdoor environment we have included a modern stone patio, produced from locally learned bluestone. This type of stone was selected due to its feminine and durable surface, so the homeowners could feel comfortable dining or lounging outside. The patio is bordered with built-in planters, horchet and insigne in cedar; filled with seasonal flowering blooms that will breathe different experiences into the space and create color throughout the seasons. Lastly, a water feature was included into the landscape, which designed to create effects of natural ambiance and sound into the landscape. Even though the site had complicated construction and logistical issues on the site with slopes for pathways; steps, and access limitations for moving materials for heavy machines, we elevated inefficiency of construction, including hand-carrying when feasible. The end product was a unique combination of successful design, functionality and aesthetics; as the pathways lead from the poolhouse to multiple soils types, to allow clients to directly get fresh herbs, seasonally grown plants, and flowers for their nighttime dinner in their outdoor living sanctuary. Finally, ambient lighting was added to showcase 'the architectural elevations of the poolhouse, pathways and plants' at night; as secondary installations indicate the users the space provides continued planned design effects into the evening.
