About This Project

Contemporary Transitional Garden Designed by Karen Aitken and Associates, the Contemporary Transitional Garden reflects our dedication to quality landscaping design in Aromas, Corralitos, and surrounding locations, seamlessly blending modern sophistication with traditional charm. The changed an underneath-utilized backyard into a vibrant outdoor space that compliments the architecture of the home while tying it back to the landscape around it. The overall design includes garden beds that incorporate native drought-resistance plants and edible plantings that are aesthetically pleasing and sustainable. Elements were rigorously sourced using high-quality materials, including natural stone to create pathways and wooden decking that integrates beautifully with the surrounding plants. A striking water feature made of local granite serves as an anchor to the garden - not only does it catch the eye, but also contributes to the sound of water while servicing the local wildlife. One of the design challenges was a slope on-site, which we were able to turn into tiered garden beds, creating a sense of space and enhancing drainage for the long-term viability of the new planting. We were also able to save some existing trees on site and incorporated them into the design for shade and to create a sense of maturity. The finished product was a beautiful and dynamic garden that captured our clients’ attention because of the balance with modern design and native a feel. The Contemporary Transitional Garden speaks to our commitment to quality workmanship, innovation, and the design of outdoor living spaces that can be enjoyed. In this case, we created a process that adds real value to the property and to the people that can enjoy the gardens a fitting retreat for many diverse living spaces in California.
