### Description of Acton Edible Garden&Raised Beds The Element of Sustainable Landscaping and Urban Agriculture in the Acton Edible Garden & Raised Beds by HomeHarvest Edible Landscapes and Construction. In the middle of Acton, this converted a poorly used side-yarden into a productive edible paradise; for the homeowner, a bounty of fresh produce delivered to the door. We designed and built a series of raised garden beds from untreated cedar, thinking a bit long-term sustainability and organic gardening practices. The layout of this space is designed for sunlight and accessibility; every bed face south to enjoy the most amount of sunlight, yet the system allows for you to access every area without the risk of trampling plants. An efficient drip irrigation system was then installed, for plant health, maximising the use of potable water by harvesting rainwater. Initial challenges we faced was due to rocky soil composition in the area which made planting difficult. To counter this, we tested the soil and added organic compost to amend the native earth for a growing substrate for veggies, herbs, and fruits. We also added a beautiful recycled stone path through the garden that allows for easy walking around the garden, and it looks stunning too. What we end-up with is a stunning marriage between form and function, with bright rows of tomatoes, peppers and basil interspersed with aromatic herbs like rosemary and thyme. Homeowners were thrilled with the result which gave their family the 'dream home' feel Not only did this enhance their property landscape, it also deepened their relationship with Nature and nature-based sustainable living.
