Posted in: Waunakee Walkout by Four of Six Landscape The Waunakee Walkout is located in the beautiful community of Waunakee and reflects Four of Six Landscape's dedication to design quality and craftsmanship. This groundbreaking landscaping approach sought to design the ideal blend of indoor and outdoor areas allowing the home to become open to nature while being functional as a walkout. They made a large, multi-level patio from quality natural stone which is both durable and pleasing to look at. To offset the vivid green of the landscape with a minimalistic structure, we meticulously chose a mix of bluestone and slate. Lush perennial gardens with native species that would flourish in the Wisconsin climate were planted along the edges of the patio to soften the hardscape and connect the space with the natural context. The first main issue was on the slope that needed treating, we had to engineer a solution to provide drainage and avoid erosion. So with the above points in mind we designed a tiered landscape that catered both to these concerns as well as provided some visual interest in the landscape. Fieldstone, both imported and local, served to retain the slope, as well as create additional seating for outdoor activities. We also installed some warm LED lighting along paths and in the garden beds to help the place pull into the darkness even more and come alive. Thoughtful distribution of some decorative boulders with ornamental grasses provided textures and layers to this dynamic landscape who keeps changing with each season. The end product was a stunning outdoor retreat that left our clients overjoyed with the ability to use their back yard for entertaining and relaxation. The Waunakee Walkout from Four of Six Landscape is a true testament to what goes into every design we come up with: quality, creativity, and happy clients make for beautiful neighborhoods, from Cottage Grove, through Madison, and beyond.
