About This Project

Softened Summer Shelter Designed by Four of Six Landscape, the 'Softened Summer Shelter' turns a suburban backyard into an immersive garden escape for its clients from the Cottage Grove, De Forest and Madison area. A great combination of form and function, a perfect spot for summer gatherings and relaxation. This beautiful pergola, made from sustainably sourced cedar, creates a comfortable space that allows filtered sunlight in while also providing plenty of shade. Organically integrating with and surrounding the structure are expansive native perennial gardens, which include a diverse array of colors from coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, and ornamental grasses that thrive in the native climate. Adding some eco-friendly mulch boosts curb appeal while helping to maintain moisture needed to keep the plants thriving through the summer. One of the biggest obstacles tackled during this was the site unevenness that impeded the overall design vision. And of course, allowing our team of craftspeople to blend the land into an artful entry to the shelter with stone steps carefully added that follow the land and lead the visitors through the garden - an entrance carefully set into the shelter. We also had a stone fire pit built out of local fieldstone, complete with seating to enjoy on chilly nights stargazing. The selection is done from the natural ground which blends beauty and provides durability. The end result is an outdoor experience that is cohesive and of a greater standard than what the client expected or hoped for in sustainability + comfort + beauty. The 'Softened Summer Shelter' has become a beloved location for family get-togethers, quiet contemplation, and jubilant celebrations alike, serving as a representation of Four of Six Landscape's dedication to high-quality construction and thoughtful design on all of their builds.
