Fall City Hideaway In the tranquil landscape of Fall City, Alderwood Landscape Architecture and Construction is excited to present the ‘Fall City Hideaway,’ an incredible that seamlessly blends nature with functional outdoor living. The was intended to provide a peaceful aqueduct while capturing the essence of the etched landscape with sustainable practices and fine materials. The design includes a multi-tiered garden that effectively incorporated native plants, such as ferns and evergreens, to ensure year-round interest while maintaining an environmentally conscious way of outdoor living. A winding path out of locally sourced flagstone welcomes a sense of adventure and invites you to imagination from zone to zone, creating cozy fire pit area with custom cedar chairs for one's family and friends, perfect for gatherings around a fire to the evening sky full of stars. Probably the most challenging aspect was the natural slope of the site. We were able to turn the slope into a strength by developing a series of terraced gardens. Terraced gardens are impactful toward aesthetics and environmental function, especially in improving drainage and ameliorating erosion to make the landscape longevity compelling. The rain garden is also a sustainable practice in its development and function in managing stormwater while providing sustenance for the native wildlife in the area. To contrast the lush, ambient greenery, we incorporated various amounts of up-lighting to highlight the unique aspects of the landscape while still providing warmth and ambiance during the night. The final product was a visual hideaway that our clients were thrilled to be a part of, while providing the meaningful utility of an outdoor space that inspired relaxation and connection with nature.
