About This Project

Belmont Family Fun by Kristen Rudger Landscape Design Right in the center of Belmont is the 'Belmont Family Fun' , which showcases Kristen Rudger Landscape Design's aim to provide engaging, usable outdoor spaces that are meant for families to enjoy. The work on the backyard design revolves around creating an inviting atmosphere for recreation, entertainment, and relaxation. The plans included the custom design of a large patio in durable, quality pavers, designed to fit with the natural environment, and to provide plenty of space for family barbecues and outdoor functions in the backyard. A large, sustainable cedar pergola was also designed and built, providing shade and a comfortable place to lounge on warm days. As the space would be used year round and for recreational purposes, measures were taken to ensure it was beautiful and low maintenance, introducing a variety of native plants that looked vibrant, were resource efficient and provided habitat. Planning and building a kid's play area was one of the most important elements to make sure the family will enjoy their yard for the years to come. As part of the kid's play area, we had to ensure that we built a soft surface appropriate for young children in lieu of a typical play ground surface. Another challenge was the slope of the yard where we decided to create a multi student garden design to encourage accessibility and engagement of the garden. We did build a stone retaining wall, which added character while being functional to hold mulch while also looking natural and keeping with the slope of the yard. The end product is a usable landscape for the family that is a perfect balance of fun and formality, and once complete, the family was extremely excited to enjoy their backyard space. The addition of this outdoor space has allowed the family to use this area for play and beauty for many years.
