Devonshire by The Garden Design Studio Located near downtown Austin, the 'Devonshire' landscaping is a reflection of The Garden Design Studio's creativity and experience. Serving many communities including Barton Creek, Rollingwood, and West Lake Hills, the Devonshire truly embodies the combination of modern design with the inherent beauty of nature. The goal of the was to convert a traditional yard into a calm outdoor oasis that could be integrated into the context of the onsite landscape. In sourcing native plants in a sustainable, low-maintenance way, the team also sourced plant material that would provide local biodiversity. Attention was paid when placing flowering plants like the Texas bluebonnet and rosemary to add seasonal interest and textural variety. To connect different areas of the property, an elegant flagstone path supports a destination fire pit area built of local stone. This quaint location provides an attractive gathering place for family and friends. A set of custom-built wooden benches made from reclaimed cedar not only offer seating but add organic appeal that fits and finishes the space. One of the toughest challenges of the was addressing a variety of elevation changes across the property. The construction of tiered garden beds containing natural boulders to compose the wall and steps offered appeal and structural cohesion. The terracing addressed drainage concerns while adding depth and dimension to the overall landscape. The final product was a beautifully cohesive outdoor space - as it has met the client's vision and strives to embrace the local ecosystem. The Devonshire stimulated the client beyond their expectations and left them enthusiastic their new, beautiful, practical space. This will be identified as one of the most beautiful examples of landscape design and a testament to key components of what The Garden Design Studio envelops with each landscape it presents to their future clientele.
