Container September 2014 Sponsored by Sterling Design & Landscape Resources In September 2014, Sterling Design & Landscape Resources began an innovative known as the Container , which took an average outdoor space and created a colorful, sustainable escape in the center of Houston. Sterling Design & Landscape Resources was responsible for designing a variety of container gardens that would not only enhance the visual appearance of the property but also produce a livable space outdoors. The container included various ornamental and edible plant selections from the soil to plant the containers, including a multitude of different ferns, petunias, and edible herbs. We used durable, sustainable containers that enhanced the aesthetics of the as well as good quality organic fertilizer, organic potting soil, and novice plant selections that would improve and help produce a more lush installation. The pots were a combination of concrete and resin pots in a variety of textures and colors. The biggest challenge to the was Houston's unpredictable (and often inclement) weather, which required careful attention to the plant selection and placement to ensure that each container would thrive well. The staff worked assiduously on researching and deciding the best seasonal plants to pair with the weather, wear of the installation, and the aesthetic drive behind the color the staff selected; mainly considering whether it looks good too! In the end, the container was a colorful display of container plants for the family to enjoy. Meals and family gatherings had a nice setting in the backyard, while the containerized herbs and vegetables offered a uniquely functional element to the . The client was elated that their house was pleasing to the eye, but, more importantly, it also met the goal of being sustainable and eco-friendly. The Container was a representation of our dedication to taking ordinary outdoor spaces and making them personal extensions of our clients’ homes while exceeding their expectations.
