This illustrates the balance of natural beauty and outdoor luxury in a gorgeous ongoing example of the art and construction Altera Landscape provides throughout Southern California. This began with an extensive site analysis, allowing us to understand the topography and micro-climate of the property. A main challenge to this was the steep grade of the site, which required terracing to create usable outdoor spaces while ensuring planting stability and drainage. Our trained team provided a curated line of stone retaining walls using local natural stone, developing a connection between the hardscape and the lush landscape. The center of the Sierra Madre is a stunning multi-level patio built with high-quality travertine pavers, providing an aesthetically pleasing and durable surface for entertaining purposes. This area features a built-in fire pit with a custom communal seating area built with sustainable teak practice seating for family gatherings under the stars. This area flows effortlessly into a colorful garden full of native California plant material - drought tolerant succulent planting areas, herbal plants, and flowering perennials that bloom continuously through the year for local pollinators, ultimately adding to the ecological function of the site and stability of ecosystem services. Water use efficiency was at the forefront of design, with the implementation of the most state-of-the-art irrigation system for the patio and landscape, to also account for weather changes, so that the plant material thrives without unnecessary use. Beyond the technical aspects of the system, mood lighting was placed for architectural scope to contemporary lighting for an inviting space by night. The end product is a stunning landscape feature that compliments the architecture of the home while providing a relaxing escape for family and friends.
