1st + 1st South Boston The fantastic '1st + 1st South Boston' , completed by Natalie DeNormandie, embodies the artful balance of visual appeal and usability, tailored to the needs of the clients. Located in the lively neighborhood of South Boston, the landscape redesigned an urban outdoor space into an enticing haven for leisure and fellowship. The new landscape includes a beautiful selection of native plantings to promote an eco-friendly, flourishing atmosphere that enhances local biodiversity. Durable perennials, vibrant annuals, and ornamental grasses were selected to enhance year-round interest while minimizing water use. Natural stone pathways were installed to guide people through the landscape, utilizing locally-sourced granite that ties the to its architectural context. Planning around the slope of the site posed some challenge, but with thoughtful grading and innovative drainage solutions, Natalie and the installation crew were able to complete the in a way that ensures the plantings will acclimate. With the slope in mind, a tiered planting system was designed to address both aesthetic and functional aspects with a beautiful visual appearance as well as better soil retention and water use. The final product is a remarkable landscape system that integrates beautifully with its urban backdrop. The clients were especially impressed with the seating areas, built from their sustainable materials, allowing them to imagine themselves regularly relaxing in their outdoor escape. The use of lighting enhances the landscape into a warm and inviting setting in the evenings.
