The Winslow Gardens Matthew Cunningham Landscape Design LLC is excited to unveil "The Winslow Gardens," a remarkable landscape located in Stoneham that embodies our philosophy of attentive craftsmanship, thoughtful storytelling, and creativity in practice. The objective of this was to construct a welcoming outdoor refuge that fits harmoniously with the outdoor environment while complementing the architectural of the home. The Winslow Gardens features a variety of beautiful landscaping elements including a native plant perennial flower garden that blooms in succession throughout the year, providing a seasonal display of color and attracting local pollinators. An intentional and well-constructed stone path, made from bluestone found locally, beautifully guides you through the garden, inviting you to observe and interact with the landscape. In proximity to the path, custom raised planters made from sustainably harvested cedar provide structure, visual interest, and practical space for the client to grow their culinary herbs and vegetables. One of the most significant challenges we faced with this was developing solutions to accommodate the slope of the property, while maintaining proper drainage and stability of the soil. We developed a series of terraced beds, made from natural stone retaining walls that meld into the surrounding landscape, creating both a visually appealing and functional design solution. These beds provide a space for both planting and drainage, while giving depth and interest to the garden. We also installed a small water feature that includes a pond and waterfall. The pond, designed as an important feature of the garden and habitat for local wildlife, partnered with the sound of flowing water, creates a tranquil atmosphere for the client to relax and reflect. The Winslow Gardens has result in an incredibly beautiful landscape, elevated and transformed, to the joy of the homeowner. The thoughtfulness and sustainable materials are evident throughout the design process. The homeowner now has a landscaped outdoor escape that has been sustainably designed to reflect their love for the outdoors as a gathering a space for family and friends.
