Topanga Canyon Residence by GEL: Griffin Enright Landscape Located in the incredible landscape of Topanga Canyon, GEL: Griffin Enright Landscape made a private residence a harmonious retreat that makes one feel immersed within nature. The vast scope of this included the design of native plantings, eco-friendly hardscaping, and serendipitous outdoor living spaces. The involved the design and installation of a drought-tolerant garden that made use of a variety of California native plants to encourage biodiversity and promote low water use. The steep terrain was addressed through creative solutions of terraces, seating areas and stone pathways made from locally sourced materials to create a natural and inviting transition from home into the garden. Even more, the addition of a custom wooden deck further enhanced the outdoor quality of the exhibition and allowed the owner to enjoy front row views of the canyon and have a refuge for entertainment and leisure. Natural stone paving for the patio and retaining walls fit with the overall eco-conscious context of the and flowed nicely with the rocky outcrops that are common in the canyon. Overall, the landscape was inviting, aesthetically pleasing and consistent with the ecological framework of Topanga Canyon. The residence now exemplifies quality craftsmanship and innovation for living in nature and the occupants are thankful for its beauty. GEL has set a new standard through artistry and sustainability throughout the communities we serve from Venice to Pasadena.
