Avocado by MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning Located in Newport Beach, the 'Avocado' illustrates the design skills and artistry of MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning. This landscaping is a complete renovation of the landscaping of a private residence. It incorporates the elements of entertainment in the outdoor living area as well as the Californian architectural beauty of the back yard. Important features of the Avocado are the carefully planned native plantings, chosen because of their drought tolerant qualities and seasonal beauty. The plan includes winding walkways of locally quarried flagstone which carry the viewer's eye to a significant central water pool which is a visual point of interest and a quiet sound of a waterfall. Another element in the landscape plan is the use of environmentally friendly products such as pervious pavers and salvage wood used in the shrub and plant area arrangements for seating. This gives evidence of MDZA's commitment to quality environmental designs without loss of aesthetic appearance. As in every , the work crew is challenged with various aspects of the sites. Some of these in this case were the intrinsically discovered unevenness of the site and the already existing drainage concerns. These were handled by innovative re-grading of the site, the water drainage areas and placing of native plant materials in various methods. The result is a significant improvement in the beauty and ease of use of the space, along with the economy of giving permanence and longevity as a landscape, both of hardscape and softscape to the population of the house. When the finally was reviewed with the client, they were pleased with the whole scheme and mentioned the significant balance of modern design qualities with a slight rustic appearance of the landscape. The final stands testimony to MDZA's commitment to workmanship in quality of construction and the creation of landscapes which define the beauty and ease of use for these spaces in Corona Del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, and Newport Beach and Newport Coast.
