Strand I by MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning is pleased to introduce 'Strand I', a specialized landscape that provides remarkable outdoor elegance located in Corona Del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Newport Coast. The goal of this refined landscape was to enrich the natural beauty of the surroundings and utilize a rich palette of native plants in conjunction with responsibly-sourced materials that amplify beauty and ecological integrity. At the center of Strand I is a nuanced arrangement of drought-tolerant plants, all chosen to reflect the local climate while promoting water conservation. The colorful palette consists of native California poppies, lavender, and hardy succulents, designed to create a stunning backdrop of seasonal blooms. This is enhanced by classic pathways of locally sourced flagstone that weave throughout the garden, offering sophisticated transition points that invite one to enjoy the spaces quietly. Among the many highlights of the lies a custom outdoor living room featuring a fire pit surrounded by reclaimed, sustainable teak seating that was designed for relaxation and entertaining; it extends the living area and was intended to create community and connection to the landscape. The driveway uses a permeable paver which provides both a refined look and an effective way to manage drainage while simultaneously addressing rainwater runoff common to coastal lifestyles. As with any MDZA took on, pre-existing topography and soil conditions were a major consideration. The estimator and landscape architects engineered terraces and retaining walls that augmented the landscape while providing stabilizing forces. The attention to detail was sure to endure while maintaining beauty. The final product promises relay delight to the client while acting as a respite from the busy beach town.
