In the early 1960s, Bob opted to grow his business by acquiring a second garden center at Stark Street. The area was largely undeveloped then, but Portland was poised to explode and a store on the edge of the city seemed bound to succeed eventually. The business was named by Bob and Meryle after their seven children — six boys and one girl, all of whose names begin with the letter ‘D’. Hence the name 7 Dees. Bob has been fortunate that all of his children shared in his passion for plants and beautiful gardens.
