About This Project

Hermosa Estates Completed by Ruben Valenzuela, Landscape Architect, Hermosa Estates represents a meeting of nature and elegant design in one of Southern California's iconic landscapes. Over an acre of a residential estate features a beautiful mixture of native plants, hardscaping and functional outdoor living, all based on the client’s program. Hermosa Estates features a drought easily tolerable garden featuring all native plant material aimed at aesthetics and sustainability in the landscape. Ruben utilized high-quality materials like local stone pathways and decomposed granite to maximize an ease of flow between spaces on the property. Hermosa Estates had several site challenges including steep hillsides and sandy soil, all common of the San Gabriel, and San Fernando Valleys. Ruben tackled those challenges by embracing some creative grading and soil amendments ensuring adequate drainage, proper soil and planted materials. The design features an outstanding infinity-edge pool that spills down to a relaxing water feature surrounded by lush vegetation aggravating the hospitality for outdoor living and entertainment. To complement Hermosa Estates’ wealth of hospitality materials Ruben was able to designer integrate an outdoor cooking kitchen with a robust weather-resistant design that fits nicely into the landscape. The outcome is an exemplary estate that accomplishes the client’s needs for form and function in Elevated Outdoor living while embracing the distinctive natural landscape of Malibu and West Los Angeles. Hermosa Estates exemplifies Ruben Valenzuela's commitment to the quality of a design and creativity. The client was excited their Transition Outdoor Living.
