About This Project

Valenzuela Residence Located in the heart of Southern California, the Valenzuela Residence designed by Ruben Valenzuela, Landscape Architect, perfectly captures beauty and function. This magnificent landscape renovation spans a large outdoor area exposed to the sun in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valley but also represents a coastal feel akin to Malibu. The includes an intentional arrangement of drought tolerant plant materials, California natives, and seasonal colour throughout, allowing for an environmentally sensitive to adorn the property. Ruben used premium products such as locally and regionally sourced stone pathways, and custom-made, sustainable wooden decking to create outdoor spaces for relaxation and entertaining. Dense, and detrimental, planting on an unprotected hillside was removed on one side of the property, which was an initial challenge to provide proper grading and drainage for water pooling and plant health. With detail and commitment, Ruben incorporated an innovative irrigation system to use less water while providing a plush yard. Ultimately, the result is a vibrant landscape with an intimate space to retreat surrounded by climbing jasmine, a koi pond that mirrors the sky, and paths that meander for guests to explore. The client expressed enjoyment in the new design, not only enhancing the beauty of their residence but also creating a special retreat for their family. Through the , Ruben Valenzuela has shown the artistry and expertise in which he runs his business, ultimately becoming a significant client additional to the landscapes of Southern California.
