About This Project

Lowell Britt Residence Completed by Ruben Valenzuela, Landscape Architect, the Lowell Britt Residence is the culmination of one of the best residential landscape designs in Southern California. This included front and backyards which were completely redesigned into a beautiful oasis that balanced aesthetics with functionality. The plan employed a diverse variety of native California plants that exhibit drought-resistant characteristics and vivid colors to promote sustainability and maximize the beauty of the property. Furthermore, Ruben’s expertise in the design process helped inform the materials chosen for the , including natural stone pathways and decomposed granite, which integrated well with the property and offered durable, low-maintenance solutions. One of the major challenges for this landscape design was the sloping property grade, which created the need for plausible solutions with respect to drainage and soil stabilization. Through great design efforts, Ruben was able to introduce terraced garden beds and retaining walls, which created a dramatic layered effect, while also managing decently the water runoff of the . At the center of the backyard is a gorgeous custom-designed patio made with high-quality pavers to extend the living space outdoors. The backyard included a built-in fire pit and seating, which makes it a popular family gathering spot and encourages entertaining outside. Semi-accent lighting was then installed to highlight the beauty of the landscaping at night, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The completed not only impressed the clients with its design and functionality but added value to the overall estate with the upgraded aesthetics. Ruben Valenzuela has once again proven why he is sought after for design work around the Southern California region in places like San Gabriel and San Fernando Valley, Malibu, West Los Angeles, as well as the Phoenix, AZ Metro Area. The completed Lowell Britt Residence reflects the power of take time in the garden on to improve community outdoor spaces.
