About This Project

Contemporary Mid Century Zen by Park Slope Design A by Park Slope Design called, 'Contemporary Mid Century Zen,' based out of the artist community of Santa Fe, offers a marriage of modern design and outdoors tranquility. The design encompasses a significant landscape site, thoughtfully planted with native plants such as agaves and colorful desert flowers, to be visually attractive and sustainable in an arid climate. The incorporates mid-century lines and shapes into a seamless indoor-outdoor space. A bold path made of locally sourced flagstone meanders through the site, leading to a quiet meditative space defined by river rocks and a distinct, minimal water feature that creates ambiance. A central struggle was the rocky terrain and grading solutions, which have required a plan for retaining walls in a few areas. All portions of the hardscaping and plant palette were approached with sustainability in mind, creating an interesting landscape interaction while also providing an element of sustainability. The meditative space invites serenity, and as it becomes versatile and provides some sensory experience with bamboo textures, it draws people the homeowners way and lets their minds escape into quiet reflection. Ultimately, the outcome surpassed the client expectation to create an outdoor experience that is functional, practical for the clients to entertain, relax in, and reflects an authentic representation of contemporary with mid-century modern.
