Contemporary Naturalistic Meadow - Seattle, WA Sage and Stone LLC completed work in the Contemporary Naturalistic Meadow , which redefined outdoor spaces in urban Seattle. In a thriving neighborhood, this landscape design merges modernism and aesthetic with the area’s native plants to create a peaceful retreat that responds to its surrounding ecosystem. The consisted of an extensive palette of native grasses and wildflowers that were formally selected and designed for the Pacific Northwest climate. The team incorporated color through seasonal interest with Pacific aster, yarrow, and lupine in addition to supporting the local pollinator cohort. To support this naturalistic feeling, the team used locally sourced stone for the pathways, integrating hardscape into the floral landscape. One of the challenges of this was developing a strategy for the sloped site while providing adequate drainage to prevent erosion, while also allowing the plants to thrive. The team, Sage and Stone LLC, tactfully designed a series of terraced beds to develop retention and drainage capacity with visual interest. The occupancy outcome is a beautiful contemporary meadow design that has increased the aesthetic of the property however also has enhanced biodiversity. The clients were very happy with the new design, allowing them to experience a peaceful retreat that reflects their values in nature and sustainability.
