About This Project

Atherton 2014 Keith Willig Landscape Architecture, Inc. began an extensive planting in 2014, in Atherton, California, a high-end residential community. The brought together art and function to create a beautiful garden space that blended with the natural landscape. This included a combination of California native plants, selected for drought tolerance and aesthetic possibilities. Waterwise irrigation was incorporated to promote water conservation while maintaining a healthy green landscape. Pathways and patios were surfaced with high-quality stone sourced locally. Convenient access to an inviting and durable outdoor space. A significant challenge presented by the included site topography, which caused variation in elevations through the . Using innovative grading to develop smooth transitions and, ultimately, to mitigate erosion was necessary. Innovative terraced garden beds and carefully placed retaining walls were developed to not only address drainage concerns but also added detail to the landscape. The final outcome was a captivating outdoor space with inviting pathways, colorful flower beds, and areas to contemplate and reflect on life. Water features were custom designed sprinkled throughout to make the natural sounds reverberate in the garden... The client's vision was achieved with creativity and craft to produce the requested outdoor space, and overall the outcome exceeded the clients expectations!
