Summary: Gentleman's Farm by Hess Landscape Architects Located in Lansdale, the Gentleman's Farm represents Hess Landscape Architects’ mission to create outdoor environments that balance purpose and beauty of place. This comprehensive landscape renovation transformed a large 2-acre site into a refuge showcasing the marked calmness of rural character. Our thoughtful design broke the site into several clearly articulated spaces; a colorful vegetable garden area, a quiet pond area with a rustic wooden bridge, and perennial flower borders that offer a multitude of colors each season. The use of locally sourced native plants enhances biodiversity and sustainability this also ensured a natural landscape. Authenticity was achieved through effortful hardware selections: reclaimed stone walkways, weathered timber raised beds, and unrefined natural features. One of the challenges was to incorporate the existing site topography into our design with its drainage issues. Our trained landscape architects continued to adjust the grading plan and installed an innovative rain garden to improve drainage management and provide an elegant focal point. The result of the Gentleman's Farm is a stunning landscape that blends old world farming purposes with new-world design sensibilities. The final designs have delighted our clients who now enjoy an outdoor space that both encourages leisure, gardening as needed, and an integrative perspective with nature.
