27th Street Landscape Conversion by Hess Landscape Architects The "27th Street" , based in Lansdale, is a notable display of the creativity and craftsmanship of Hess Landscape Architects. This endeavor has vastly improved an underutilized urban area into a vibrant, usable landscape with a focus on beauty and sustainability. The planting design had a variety of native plantings, that were chosen to grow sustainably in the climate and support the local environment. The hardy perennials, ornamental grasses and seasonal flowers were used to add visual interest and color throughout the year. To add usability to the space and create connections within it, Hess incorporated multi-level hardscaping with environmentally-sourced pavers to create inviting pathways and gathering spaces for the general public to utalise. One of the challenges faced throughout the design and construction process was the access to the proposed site, which required a different tactic to implement throughout construction so that they could mitigate disruption. The team at Hess executed this immaculate extra effort with excellent planning for the execution of the installation and with specialized equipment to demonstrate efficiency when installing each element. A beautiful landscape was created, and the transformation at the 27th Street corridor was serendipitous and reflects the potential of future urban landscaping. An improved drainage strategy to manage stormwater also highlights diversity within strategies from the team at Hess in consideration of sustainability. The client was most appreciative of the final result, and was grateful to see a bland area now evoking life and beauty. The '27th Street' is a wonderful example of what quality craftsmanship, intrinsic motivation to design, and a knowledge of python can create spaces that bring nature and people together.
