Featured s by Matthew Murrey Design At Matthew Murrey Design, we specialize in creating beautiful outdoor spaces that showcase the qualities of houses and enhance the lives of their residents. The 'Featured s' section is one of many operations that reflect our commitment to quality work and imagination all throughout the unique neighborhoods of Dallas, Highland Park, Oak Lawn, University Park, Preston Hollow, Flower Mound, Southlake, Westlake, and Plano. In this instance, we completed a full landscape renovation for a private residence in Preston Hollow. The homeowners were looking for a contemporary and elegant aesthetic complimented by a charming touch. The site, like many yards in Preston Hollow, had a slope that posed potential challenges for design and functionality. Our first step was to make tiered garden beds with locally-sourced limestone and natural stone retaining walls with two landing spaces for a successful transition from the upper patio to a lower garden area. We chose to implement all native plants including, but not limited to, Texas sage, ornamental grasses, and perennial flowering species that can provide year round color and low water usage. We specifically included in the design a beautiful water feature that provides a gentle waterfall effect that becomes a focal point for relaxation while the other sensory aspects of the site fully incorporate into the experience. The walkways were thoughtfully laid out utilizing permeable pavers suited for urban environments and sustainability goals for the site. Though we had a special emphasis on functionality and beauty, we wanted to optimize drainage to keep the foot traffic safe and inviting through the garden. This was important to maximizing longevity of the landscape while providing the illusion of a naturally untreated environmental impact. We fully invested lighting features that served purposeful light to review the water feature and highlight unique plantings. The end result blew our clients away with this breathtaking landscape. The homeowners were entirely pleased with the effective blend of beauty and functionality, creating their own lovely oasis. Our commitment to quality craftsmanship and detail, added curb appeal that increased the property's market value.
