Southern Garden by Matthew Murrey Design In Preston Hollow, the Southern Garden captures the work and detail that Matthew Murrey Design specializes in. This gorgeous landscape was designed to reveal the property's natural beauty and use the appeal of Southern style design elements to enhance the excitement of the home. The utilized a combination of native Texas plants and traditional Southern plants like azaleas, magnolias, and ornamental grasses that are stunning year round. The walls and pathways utilized locally-sourced Texas limestone that will hold up to the elements in the Dallas climate and add a rustic touch. The most difficult aspect of this was the uneven site, which made grading challenging. Our team leveled the site using its undulation by designing small tiered beds that provide visual interest while promoting healthy drainage. There was also a delightful water feature designed to help the garden pop and give a constant, pleasing water sound. The outcome was an impressive Southern Garden that felt connected but distinct from the outdoor living. An inviting flagstone patio is complemented well with a lovely pergola for entertaining, with plants chosen for continuous seasonal color. Implementing a standard of excellence and paying attention to detail delighted the client, giving the home a lovely outdoor experience to enjoy, and capturing the essence of Southern hospitality.
