The Dennis Home Landscaping by Ponderosa Landscaping & Stonework Located in a beautiful part of South Dennis, the 'Dennis Home,' by Ponderosa Landscaping & Stonework, is the telling of our passion for quality craftsmanship and innovation. We were hired to redesign a small outdoor space into a beautiful oasis fully integrated into the natural surroundings of Cape Cod. The began with a thoughtful consultation with the client to establish a plan for the future landscape, one that prioritized sustainability and low-maintenance aesthetics. To support that plan we utilized native plants that perform well in the local climate, reduce watering needs, and provide color for all seasons. The final choice of ornamental grasses, flowering shrubs, and perennials have now created a landscape that provides interest year-round. Perhaps the most noteworthy component of this is the stonework, including a charming patio built out of bluestone sourced from a local quarry. Bluestone is a strong natural material that also enhances the coastal setting. This patio now acts as a gathering space for family and friends, complemented by lush greenery and strategically accessorized with landscape lighting to add warm glowing light in the evenings. One of the challenges on-site was that the pre-existing elevations created a less-than-desirable area for the patio and the gardens, and in coordinating the changes with the design, we made the necessary cuts into the grades and accepted the need for a retaining wall to create a level area. The wall was constructed from natural boulders that serve not only to hold the grade, but also add a rustic charm to the landscape style. In order to add functionality to our design, we also brought in some gravel for a meandering path, winding through the garden to provide access to the small fire pit area, a perfect location to gather and enjoy cool Cape Cod evenings. The firepit was constructed with reclaimed brick, creating an inviting setting and complementing the traditional form of the home. After several weeks of dedicated work, the was complete. The final vision extended beyond the expectations of our client, who now has an outdoor space that provides a retreat, complemented with the sustainability they enjoy and fits perfectly with their lifestyle of appreciation of nature.
