Some highlights of the were a custom stone patio fabricated from locally-sourced basalt to complement the surrounding landscape, while also providing a surface for entertaining friends outdoors. Surrounding the patio we introduced native plants to create a colorful, low-maintenance garden, and provide forage for wildlife (insects, birds, etc). An initial challenge of the was leveling the frequently uneven site. The team worked closely to creatively grade the property to create proper drainage and guard against erosion. The required work to reshape the backyard, including terracing a series of beds containing a diverse mix of perennials and ornamental grasses. What were once levels of dirt and peat became terraced landscapes that visually stabilize the slopes and add interest to the overall designed scape. As icing on the cake, we also designed and installed an elegant landscape lighting plan that brings gentle illumination to the home's architectural features and accents the environment with light. The placement of the lights creates a welcoming environment for evening gatherings and language features to foster user experience. Additionally, we included a serene water feature that provides soothing sounds and draws local birds to celebrate the landscape’s resolution. The outcome of the entire aesthetic was breathtaking! The homeowners responded positively with their blended context of usability and beauty, and called it the perfect environment for relaxing and holding gatherings for friends.
