by Rock Paper Clippers Located in Menlo Park, the '' by Rock Paper Clippers took an unremarkable backyard and transformed it into a spectacular outdoor space. Serving the communities of Belmont, Emerald Lake Hills, Highlands-Baywood Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, West Menlo Park, this is a great example of quality work and phenomenal creativity. The challenge was to create a multi-functional space that was both aesthetically pleasing and fully functional. We started the by assessing the existing landscape of the property, as the backyard was sloped with limited natural light. Our team was able to develop a tiered garden design that improved the aesthetics of the space while creating usable space in the backyard. We added a variety of native plants, selected for the climate and low maintenance, and annual flowers planted for bursts of color each spring. We also wanted to ensure the landscape was built for longevity and durability without losing elegance in the design, so we focused on quality materials that included local stone for the patio and pathways that would add a rustic feel, but stability at the same time. The addition of a custom pergola provided shade as a "retreat" space for exercise, family, or even an evening cocktail. Our client also wanted to include a light bubbling water feature in the planned landscape design, which was added, as well as the sound of water flowing to include one more soothing nature-like sound. We did, of course, face challenges along the way that included drainage and to help mitigate the existing soil quality on the property, both of which were solved by implementing a comprehensive drainage system and amending the soil so the landscape will thrive for years to come. At the end of the , both clients were in awe of their new backyard a landscape that encourages time spent outside and any chance to connect with nature. The combination of design and attention to detail truly enhanced the overall . '' is not only a lovely surprise for our clients, but it also added value to their property and improved their time outside for years to come.
